COVID-19 management in Cancun

Dear valued partner,

Thanks for your time reading this message. Due to the growing concern about the COVID-19, known as Coronavirus, I consider important to share the response against this situation at our destination.

Primarily, trust my commitment as the IIT founder to take a leading role to offset the disruption in the events and travel industry.

In our effort to keep you posted, allow me to inform you in a regular basis of the most recent actions and procedures of our destination following the guidelines of  the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), The World Health Organization (WHO) and EU recommendations to strengthen the health and safety protocols for our people and visitors. I briefly list below the different actions being taken as prevention for locals and travellers who have decided to visit us to ensure their best experience in our destination.

Screening at the Cancun International Airport

The International Cancun Airport installed sanitary filters equipped with thermal imaging cameras in the international connection areas of terminals 2, 3 and 4, where all passengers arriving on commercial flights from other countries arrive.

Prevention banners

The airport authorities have posted banners in different languages mentioning the COVID-19 symptoms asking the passengers to contact the International Health Office at the airport.

Hotels, restaurants & ground suppliers

Hotels, restaurants, bars and local suppliers have increased the frequency of cleaning the common-areas  in order to ensure safe environments, they have stablished procedures with their staff  to manage any suspicious situation, hand sanitizers are available in throughout their facilities for public use, and they implemented monitoring measures of any symptoms in their staff to prevent any workers with illness that can be transmitted to others.

Hygiene at local & regional busses

The capacity of people inside the public transportation has been limited, the vehicles are constantly cleaned and fumigated, this measurement applies to both the local public busses and the regional busses. Also, the bus drivers are due to wear masks and gloves during their shifts to limit their contact with the passengers.

Sanitizing of ferries to islands

All passengers boarding ferries to Holbox, Isla Mujeres and Cozumel undergo corporal temperature screening. This combined with the fumigation of the maritime transport areas, disinfection stations and hygienic measures for the staff and passengers are immediate steps to keep ourselves safe.

Our Healthy Bureau and the City Hall are working closely to follow the recommendations of the World Health Organization and part of it has been:  asking the Catholic Church to transmit their masses on TV, keeping a distance of 1 1/2 meters in hospitals while waiting for attention, City Council sessions behind closed doors transmitted on TV and the recommendation to avoid public gatherings.

In hopes this information will reassure you we are reinforcing the safety of our place in challenging times not only for our visitors but also for our families, focused on the idea the best we care about ourselves will let us continue being an important destination in America.

Take care!

Best regards,
